Heavy Heavy 15!!

I have been up to my eyes in it as they say lately and so have neglected my responsibilities once again.....But the upside is that there is plenty of good stuff flying about and due out very soon.....Kicking things off Strictly Rhythm/Defected are busy churning out quality product as always....First cab off the ranks that is no doubt going down a storm on the white isle is "La Mezcla" by Michael Cleis which I have been advised uses a vocal refrain taken from a traditional Bolivian folk song. Combined with a catchy flute and some rumbling congas and string it out for 12 minutes and you have a sure fire dancfloor hit!....Another fresh release from Defected is from top French DJ/producer Yass who has teamed up once again with LT Brooks for "No Lies".....Also on it's way from Strictly are new remixes of the Sir James classic "You're Special" so hoping there will be some goodies amongst the expected package.....Also worth a look is the Andy Daniel track "Whatever" which uses a sample from Jimmy Bo Horne's "Spank" effectively and comes with a mix from DJ Spen.....Talking of Baltimore's finest the Muthafunkaz have turned out a wicked mix of Mishal Moore's "Oh Lord" which is a very catchy gospel track which I'm really digging at the moment.....The SoulHeaven camp have put 2 excellent releases in the last few weeks my pic going to Andy Ward's debut for the label entitled "Streets Of The Sun" which also comes with a mix from DeepCitySoul but in my opinion you really don't need to look past the Heavyweight Mix which utilises the drum programming talents of Phil Asher.....The other release "Desire" (which is equally as good although is much more of a sleeper) comes from Bopstar and features the vocal talents of Zara McFarlane and mixes from new boy Jose Carretas....Jellybean Soul continue their ability to continuously offer top quality product and offer 2 new releases for June/July the first is the 3 Amigo's second EP which includes a handly tool called "Old Testament" and is rather reminiscint of a classic NY bootleg from the 70s.....Also from Jellybean Soul is a slinky soulful number from dunnEasy with the mighty Kenny Bobien on vocal duties. Both Jovonn and Alex Dimitri offer up mixes but Ed Dunn and Ethan White's mixes are just to good to get past "Summer Nights" will be getting spins at the more soulful nights globally.....A major favourite of mine over the past month has to be from Deep Haven Music whose output never seems to disappoint. DJ Man-X teams up with Sterling Ensemble and the legendary Blaze whose Kevin Hodge provides the vocal and a nice remix, but the DJ Man X has to be the one....Bound to go down as one of the best of the year in my opinion......Lastly I have to mention Vega Records who also seem to have a never ending supply of top notch product for us.....First off Louie Vega himself drops the bomb that is "London Roots" which has a wicked half-sung/half-spoken vocal from Johnny Dangerous...If that's not enough another Louie Vega produced track called "Take You Away" credited to the DJN Project which recalls late 90's MAW output is really doing it for me....but lucky last has to go to the legendary Pal Joey who graces us for the first time in years with a deep and sexy number, and in French called "Encore".....phew I'm sure I've missed other stuff but I seem to be spoilt for choice at present......Anyway here's my current Heavy 15 which are on regular rotation......

New Tracks for April and Heavy Rotation Track List

Well well well, apologies for no posts for weeks, but enough of that onto the tunes......It has been a bit quiet after the rush of WMC samplers coming at us, now that's over time to pick up on everything else. First up is Anto Vitale & Tamara Wellons with "Broken Wings" which comes with splendid mixes from the ever reliable Ian Friday....also worth checking is Dalminjo & Lenny Hamilton's "Nothing Can Seperate" on Papa Records. This originally showed up on the Papa Records WMC sampler but now comes with excellent remixes from Distant Music's Jon Cutler and he doesn't disappoint.....Another corker which apparently picked up a lot of plays in Miami is new kids on the block Nathan Adams & Zepherin Saint and their debut on Tribe Records called "Circles". Anice blend of tribal/percussive beats with a sweet soulful vocal reminiscent of Black Coffee. Don't sleep on this!!! Next those lovely people at Sole Channel have turned out another corker in the shape of Kaje featuring Sascha Williams entitled "Butterflies"....on remix duty are Mr.V, Guy Robin and Opolopo with my pick going to Guy Robin this time.....also watch out for a forthcoming Ron Hall & Thommy Davis collaboration on Defected called "Funky Casanova"......it's showed up on Defected's Miami 2009 comp but no official release yet but definitely deserves it.....more mixes of DJ Meme's "Any Love" are out and come courtesy of Jamie Lewis and Dimitri From Paris who really turns it out.....Another hot release on GoGo thsi month with Ralf Gum remixing Andy Compton's "Above The Sky" a more sedate affair than normal but nice and groovy none the less and will appeal to the more souflul taste makers around.....a real treat that's doing the rounds is a nice remix of Atlantic Starr's "Send For Me" by Master Kev and Tony Loreto which will appeal to fans of Quentin & Timmy's Shelter Mixes. Going under the name Atlantic Circle check it out before it disappears.....also whilst talking remixes/re-edits don't miss DJ Harvey's Black Cock Edits which are current circulating on reissues, my pick being his edit of Archie Bell & The Drells "No Way Back" a sure-fire floor filler if you're in the disco mood.......

Back already but there is plenty to talk about already.....Miami seems to be going off with a bang and early reports are suggesting the biggest WMC yet....will try to get there next year....anyway onto the latest tunes.....first up is Defected's Miami Sampler and you have to check out a top cover version of Prince's "When Doves Cry" by top French House producer/remixer Yass. On first consideration I was expecting the worst but to my surprise is very good and comes with a mix from the Muthafunkaz who seem to be very busy and in demand at present.....Also on the sampler is deep little number from Jovonn called "Elements", another Yass production called "I Won't" plus tracks from Baggi Begovic and Julien Jabre.....next up is some top new remixes of Ethan White & Lisa Shaw's "Find A Way" coming from Jon Cutler and Shur I Kan with my faves being Jon Cutler's....he takes it a bit deeper and just oozes class....top new release for me this week has to be the eagerly anticipated Lil Louis long player "Two Sides To Every Story" that clocks in at 18 tracks....the first eight are 4 to the floor, sexy, jazzy house that is expected from him and he doesn't disappoint....the second half is R&B so takes it from the dancefloor to the bedroom......a real stand-out for me is "Love Is....Afraid Of The Dark" but I'm sure after more listens I'll be dropping more tracks off it.....lastly another newie that seems to be getting some attention is Lady Alma's latest "Running For Nothing" which comes with excellent mixes from Universal Sun and Simbad.....that's it for now, and remember House Music Will Never Die!!!

New Top 10 - Mid March 2009

Hi peeps....sorry it's been a while been a bit slack but very excited with all the quality product which has appeared in the last 3-4 weeks, must be as the WMC is in full flow. Wish I was there, maybe next year......Anyway for starters those lovely people at Vega Records have been busy and not one but 3 quality releases have surfaced in the last couple of weeks......First up is Louie's missus Madame X Aka Anane dropping a new bomb titled "You're So Sweet" which is a sexy husband and wife affair that I can't seem to get enough of....next is Fabio Genito's latest which picks up where "Undefined Feeling" left off, but this time is a whole EP "The Limoncello EP" with my pick of the bunch being "Frozen Cream" and is just right for those dark and deep rooms out there......and finally my fave of the 3 is a re-work of the Love Committee classic "Just As Long As I Got You" nicely brought up to date by Duce Martinez who keeps all the brass and percussion but adds a solid 4 to the floor kick drum......On top of those if that wasn't enough we have a hot package from Brazil's finest DJ Meme on Soulfuric Records...Meme has turned out a wicked cover of the Rufus & Chaka classic "Any Love" complete with a trio of his own typically glorious orchestral disco mixes plus some more techy but funky mixes from the Muthafunkaz and a to round off the package are some mixes from Italy's Alfred Azzetto to add another flavour......Next Tortured Soul are back and although their latest offering "Home To You" surfaced mid last year on OM they have now re-released it with new mixes by Quentin Harris and Ethan White which I feel do it better justice than Chuck Love's original mix which stuck quite close to the album cut......Talking of Quentin he has also touched up Sybil's latest "Stronger" which also comes with mixes from Stonebridge but I'd stick with Quentin's mixes.......King Street Records, always a label that screams quality have just dropped a sampler for Miami 2009 and never fail to deliver....this time for me the picks are the Muthfunkaz mix of Heather Johnson's "Under My Skin" and Manchildblack's "Magic" although a honourable mention must go to Kenny Dope's dub of "Dance Till We Die" from P'Taah....more WMC sampler's have come from SoulHeaven Records and is just 2 tracks but both are pretty cool. Roland Clark servers up "Soul Good" which is as good as he always is backed with Matthew Brandy's "Time Me" which I must admit I'm leaning towards, a truly smooth soulful affair from him as always.....I did say that we're spoilt at the moment and another hot track that has just shown up on my rader is a Monique Bingham outing under the guise Shake The Dog entitled "Run"....The usual quality vocal is joined by drums and additional production by Phil Asher and also bass and guitars from Jephte Guillaume! Definietly recommended for the more descernable ears and dancefloors......More great stuff from Defected Records who are now into their 10th year, recent releases have included new mixes of SoulSearcher's "Can't Get Enough" which was a considerable club/crossover hit the first time around but now comes in spanking new 2009 mixes from The Layabouts, Guy Robin and Henrik B.....why new mixes were necessary is a bit of a mystery but have given it a new lease of life....Speaking of the Layabouts, the new remixes of "Time" by The Realm are worth checking as are the Restless Soul mixes from Phil Asher who really can't do much wrong at the moment.......Defected have also resurrected Copyright & Jazzie B's "Roots" from their album last year and have let Claude Monnet loose who has given it his trademark tribal, deep sound and has turned it into a real club banger that I'm just lovin'.....Lastly we can't go by without mentioning Henrik Schwarz who really is on a roll at the moment.....the lastest Sunburst Band EP "Man Of War" comes with mixes from the man, plus the recently mentioned Omar/Stevie Wonder collaboration "I'm Feelin' U" is still doing the rounds although not yet offically released, and we mustn't forget the one that's really doing it for me is his improvement on the tune that is "Think Twice" from the Detroit Experiment....like last years "I Exist Because Of You" he offer's two versions, one more jazzy than the other but both are equally capable of getting those toes tapping.....if that's not all Henrik has recently completed a mix for DJ Hell's latest album so watch this space......

I noticed in the news that MJ is in talks to perform 30 show's at London's O2 in September and will be paid a rumored 1.5 million quid a show. That'll help towards his debts! I'm hoping for some new material as well, as it's been almost 8 years since his last album "Invincible" which was at the time, in my opionion a bit hit and miss, but in retrospect sounds pretty good. So good in fact that Quentin Harris has 're-produced' "Whatever Happens" and remixed and re-named it as "Blood On My Hands" so I'm really hoping that it will see the light of day in some form.  He remains the Santana guitar parts which work well, and will make a great warm up track, or end of the nighter. 

Nothing new to report yet on the music front. I do have a new mix of my own to add up so stay locked for now......
